What is generally your preference in reading – a paper book or ebook? And why?
I prefer paperbacks, but I only read ebook right now. The reason for this is that time is very short for reading and the only time I find myself able is when I am rocking my little one to sleep. I can’t hold a paperback in the dark and see! So I use my phone with a kindle app to get in a couple of chapters each night.
How much real life goes into a fiction writing?
Quite a bit, depending on the book! In “Wrong Place, Right Time” the lead character is a bumbling traffic reporter. I did that job in real life for 5 months and was equally bad at it. So many of her experiences on the job and the descriptions of the newsroom are real. In “Accept this Dandelion,” the lead character is a radio announcer and producer, a job I did for a full decade so much of that is real as well. The main character in “God in the Kitchen” is in radio as well. In “Someone Always Loved You,” a woman is in a coma and experiences some of her memories and thoughts. Many of those memories are things that really happened to me. At the same time, much of my work is completely made up. It’s a unique blend!
