Carly Daniels knows what it is to suffer loss. She knows what it is to sacrifice. In the two years since a pandemic virus—known only as the Infection—decimated humanity, she’s made choices she never could have imagined. She’s condoned violence in the name of peace and done the unthinkable in the name of mercy. But with Justin at her side, she’s also learned there’s nothing she can’t face and nothing she wouldn’t do to protect those she loves.
But now another threat has arrived in the form of a uniformed man driving an army truck, claiming to represent the remnant of the United States military. Someone has set their sights on their community . . . and on Justin. The struggle to defend their little homeland is far from over, and the visitors may have brought more danger with them than just their weapons.
The shadows are closing in. Carly has to find out whether she has the strength to stand on her own when all of her support has fallen away. What remains when the shadows have gone?
~~EXCERPT~~
Shadows-Have-Gone-3D-Paperback-eReader
“There’s other news,” Justin said. “We made contact with a man driving an army truck.”
“The army?”
“Someone with the army?”
“There’s an army?”
“Whose army?” Pete’s voice rang above the excited babble.
“That’s the right question,” Justin said. “Whose army? He might have been wearing a uniform and claiming affiliation, but I have my doubts.”
“He claimed to be from the US Army?”
“Claimed,” Justin said, stressing the word hard. “And his claim had a few inconsistencies. I was in the Army, and I know. Whatever this guy is a part of, it’s not the army as we knew it.”
“What did he want?”
“Said he was out scouting and saw the smoke. He agreed to leave a message outside of Clayton if his people want to get in contact with us again. And I would imagine they will.”
“Last thing we need is another fight,” Grady said. He took off his hat and wiped the sweat from his forehead. “You think they know where we are?”
“General area. We wouldn’t be that hard to find if someone was really searching for us. If they’re really army, then yes, they know exactly where we are as we speak. But as I said, I have my doubts.”
“Think it will come to a fight?” Pete asked.
Justin scratched his chin. “I really can’t say. What I can say is that we always need to be prepared for it, prepared to defend what is ours.”
“What if they really are the army? Would we be America again?”
“Wait. When did we stop being America?”
“America is dead.” This came from David, his voice as blunt as a dropped stone. “We all saw it die two years ago. I don’t know what we are now, but the Constitution sure ain’t in effect anymore. There’s no government. There’s no social contract holding us together. That’s what America was, you know—a collective agreement of the people. Now we’re just—” He sliced a hand through the air.
“If the army is still active, that would mean there is a government, which would make this still America,” Grady said. “They’d be the government’s representatives, establishing order.”
Justin shook his head. “You’re thinking way too far ahead. Even if they are US Army—and that’s a very big if—they don’t have control of the whole country. There is no centralized government, no law enforcement. They’re not coming to rescue us.”

Times are tough, no one is trustworthy and yet there is a sweet innocence about some characters that hit you right between the eyes; they are always so positive and wanting to see the best in others. The End of All Things Book 1
After a terrible virus ravages the planet, Carly Daniels, one of the few survivors, hides in her apartment in Juneau trying to survive the best she can with only occasional forays to gather food. With her is Sam, a wolf puppy she found starving on the streets. He becomes her companion and a reason to continue when giving up sometimes seems like the more attractive option. Still dazed with shock and grief, she hopes for the world to go back to normal soon.
She is discovered by Justin, an ex-soldier who is intent on making his way to Florida before the winter sets in. Justin coaxes her out of her hiding place and convinces her to join him on his journey, because a warmer climate will be their best chance against the extremes of Mother Nature.
Together, they begin a perilous journey through a nation laid to waste by the disaster. Challenges abound along the way. The weather, injury, and shortage of supplies all help to slow them down. In time, they discover that they aren’t the only survivors. Some are friendly but some have had their minds destroyed by the high fever. Then there are those who simply take what they want, leaving Carly and Justin with no choice but to defend what is theirs.
But their journey is not without joy and love. Together, they face every struggle, including an unplanned pregnancy. Despite the perils of bringing a child into a world of chaos, their baby is a new beginning for themselves and a symbol of hope for the other survivors they find along the way.
This is the story of their journey to find a place to begin a new life, and a home in each other.

It's finally starting to feel like spring, but there will still be rainy days and I want you to be able to stock up on Brooke's books now. :) Actually, I didn't plan for so many to be on sale at once, but that's how it worked out. So here's the break down, low down, scoop, whatever you want to call it! I'll list them in the order in which they were written, just for added fun. :) I'm in a weird mood. Sorry... :)

Picture
Someone Always Loved you is the first book I ever wrote. I put it out there myself just kind of for fun and I've been surprised at how well it's done. I started getting royalty payments for amazon and was like what?! I have no idea how it caught on. But now that it has I do more with it promotions wise. Partly to experiment so I know what I'm doing for other books and partly because I still love the plot and hold the book near to my heart. You can get the blurb and all of the details on the book HERE.

I have the kindle version of Someone Always Loved You for sale for $2.99 regularly. Now through March 20th, the book will be .99. Grab it today on amazon HERE. The links are on my website as well. I will warn you, after the 20th, I plan to raise the price from 2.99 to 3.99. I want to see if it sells at all at that price point. And it will also make the .99 sales look better because it will be discounted even further. So grab it fast for the .99 if you want it!

Writing Beyond the Bars was an experiment in and of itself. I haven't done much with it either, but I do have it out there on kindle. It doesn't often sell and it's in a genre I don't normally write. It's a thriller/mystery type book written from five different character perspectives. It's a unique book and it was a lot of fun to write as I did not know what was going to happen as I went through the story and wrote it myself. I still get goose bumps thinking about the ending, so it might be a fun one for you to grab. Get the details on the book on my website HERE.

Because this book doesn't really sell, I decided to do a FREE promotion on it this month. Now through March 17th the book is FREE on kindle. You can grab it HERE. Once again, the link is also on my website. If you do end up getting it and reading it, please leave a review. If this book is ever going to take off, it needs to gather a few more reviews. Thanks in advance and enjoy!

Picture
Wrong Place, Right Time is technically at its normal price, but it's such a good deal, I wanted to include it as well. Get the details you want on my website HERE. This book has done really well and is up to nearly 70 reviews on amazon. I'm thrilled that people are reading and enjoying this cute little love story, as I call it. It's a great read to break away from the everyday stress of life and just revel in reading for a few hours.

Wrong Place, Right Time is only .99. It very rarely goes any lower than that. Once so far in its lifetime and I don't anticipate another free promo anytime soon. So may as well get it while it's good and cheap. You can grab it on amazon HERE and it's in plenty of other ebook locations as well.

Last, but certainly not least...especially since this is my favorite of all of the books I've written, Accept this Dandelion! This book just came out in February and I've had a lot of fun re-living writing it through reader's enjoyment of it. People are telling me they laughed out loud at certain parts and that reading it was just what they needed. My intention with this book was to put a smile on people's faces and place laughter in their hearts. Get details on the book on my website HERE.

So far, my publisher has done sales on the book twice revolving around events they are doing as a publishing group with other authors. The book is normally up for $3.99 as a kindle book. Tomorrow, March 17th, the book will be .99 so grab it fast HERE.  Sometimes, the book will be for sale for .99 a day or two before or after the event so you may have a few day window. But it will for sure be .99 on St. Patrick's day. It's such a fun, light-hearted book you don't want to miss it.

Speaking of March 17th, I'd also like to invite you to The Lucky Reader Event that Prism Book Group is hosting. Join the facebook party HERE. I will be hosting the 1-2pm hour, central time. I will be giving away a kindle copy of Someone Always Loved You, chatting, playing games, telling you more about Accept this Dandelion and other items. It'll be a lot of fun. There are different authors every hour and each one has a kindle book for sale for .99 and things to giveaway so join us for as long as you can!

Picture
Okay, I think that's all the sale news I have for now! Stay tuned for details on "Dandelions on the Road," a sequel to "Accept this Dandelion" that I completed last week. I sent the manuscript in a total rough draft form to beta readers. I am currently working on an edit of "Mamarazzi," which releases in August and then I will revisit what I will be doing with "Dandelions on the Road." I have a few ideas/options but have yet to settle on one. Details will come when I have them! :)

Happy reading!!!

~~SUMMARY~~

Pre-med student Sarah Jones is back in Beaver, Alaska, for summer vacation. A loyal member of the Gwich’in tribe, she accepts the rules set by her father, the leader of their small town. Raised in a strict household, she learned early on to do what is expected of her and has agreed to an arranged marriage. Despite her reluctance to marry without love, Sarah is unwilling to defy her father’s wishes. She hopes to help usher in an era of independence and stability for the town, but for now, her focus is finishing med school so she can become Beaver’s resident doctor.10985573_1773370876221799_7732791205552470490_n

Business owner Greg Andrews needs a change of atmosphere, away from his philandering wife and life in general. Leaving New York City to join a hunting expedition in Alaska, Greg’s plans are turned upside down when he is shot on Gwich’in land and ends up on Sarah’s operating table. In the absence of a qualified doctor, Sarah must operate to save his life. She refuses to wait for the consent of their tribal leader, and her father banishes her from the tribal land in punishment.

Grateful for his life, Greg concocts a scheme to help. Plagued by the side effects of her unconventional operation, he convinces Sarah to become his live-in nurse. Without the means to support herself, Sarah agrees to the questionable arrangement, but she soon finds herself in even more trouble. Her new problem is that she is falling in love with this infuriating man, and the choices she now must make are much more difficult than the simple act of saving a man’s life.

Together, Sarah and Greg must both decide whether they can overcome the vast differences between them, or if the indivisible line that separates their worlds will ultimately pull them apart.

~~EXCERPT~~

For the first time since he had been brought in the clinic, Sarah got a good, long look at him. She noted the perfect blond hair that fell on the side of his face—matted but still perfect. His features were rather forbidding, even in his unconscious state. The defined jawline framed well-proportioned lips that were pale and parted slightly. The suggestion of dimples on either cheek made her ache to see him smile. Then there were the long, dark eyelashes and the contoured nose, all coming together to create a striking, attractive package that kept her eyes glued to his face.

Indivisible-Line-3D-PaperbackHer heart began to race. What is wrong with me? Shaking off another wave of nausea, Sarah closed her eyes and concentrated on breathing. Her knees weakened underneath her, but she kept on inhaling and exhaling. A few more minutes and it would be over.

In her short life, Sarah hadn’t met a man who evoked the well–documented “butterflies-in-the-stomach” phenomenon. Now here she was, staring at a complete stranger with her heart banging against her chest in a frenzy. This man was just too perfect, too beautiful almost. She was even gladder she’d managed to keep him alive. He’d make a woman happy someday, if he hadn’t already. Instinct made her eyes travel to the man’s ring finger, and her heart skipped when she found it bare.

Author Interview: Renee Blare

Where do you get your ideas?

This is a tough one, believe it or not. LOL Why? Because most of my ideas come to me in my dreams. That sounds VERY hokey, doesn't it? But it's true. I pray each night before I go to bed for the Lord to lead me in the direction He wants me to go (not just in my stories, either). It's amazing what He shows me during the night. I have to write it down! During Beast of Stratton, I was scribbling all kinds of things. LOL He's an amazing God.

If you didn't write, what would your dream job be?

My husband and I have always wanted to own and operate a retreat. I want it to be a place where writers can get away from the world...everything. To connect with the Lord and let Him direct them in their work. James wants to raise pheasants and have a slice of heaven on earth...where he can share a little bit of God's country with the world.

Do you have any other books? What are they about?

My second book's coming out in July by Prism Book Group. It's called To Soar on Eagle's Wings. It the first book in the Snowy Range Chronicles. Here's a little bit about it: Spring’s in the air. While the sun shines in Timber Springs, snow falls on the Snowy Range, and trouble’s brewing in the meadows. The area’s new game warden, Steve Mitchell finds a moose mired in a bog and launches his first wildlife investigation of the season. Then the trouble follows him…straight to town.

Rachel Fitzgerald’s on Spring Break. Or at least she’s trying. Between paperwork, harassing phone calls, and her family, she may as well have stayed in her classroom. So much for relaxation. A ‘chance’ meeting with her brother’s old roommate offers her weary soul a shred of hope, but she discovers love, like life, isn’t easy.

He talks with the wisdom of the Lord but rejects the future. She wants to soar with the eagles but walks alone. And trusting God proves to be more of a challenge than ever before…

I'm working on a book I'm calling Racing Hearts. It's a novella also for Prism Book Group. I'm not sure when it's supposed to be out but I'll let you know!

What's next for you in writing?

The second book in the Snowy Range Chronicles is complete but not quite ready. It's called Through the Raging Waters. I need to do a bit of editing before anyone can get a glimpse of that one. When that's done, I'll shoot it off and start work on the third...Awaken the Embers. I need to do a little bit of research before I can start writing on Embers though. I'm pretty excited about that!

Any writing goals you have yet to obtain?

I have a ton of goals! Do you have enough room? I still haven't made it to a writer's conference yet. I've almost made it to a couple, but surgeries and my move back to Wyoming nixed both of them. I'd love to meet my crit partners. Is that writing goal? I've talked to one on the phone...as well as my editor. I'm determined to figure out the easiest way to write a book. Is that even possible? LOL Right now, I'm a combination pantser and plotter. I've tried it both ways and tossed them both out the window. Who knows, maybe I'm just doomed to be a crazy writer. Oh, well, I'm determined to learn more as I go no matter what.

What do you hope readers get out of Beast of Stratton?

To never give up no matter what you may face and you're never alone. God's with you even when you can't hear Him or don't want to. His love and strength can overcome anything.

Saturday, I spent four hours at my local Hy-Vee. And I wasn't shopping for once! I'm actually a really fast shopper so spending four hours there would be something else for me!

Hy-Vee was gracious enough to allow me to hold a special event in their store. I asked for a few hours and a table so I could sell books locally. And I promised that the profits of the books would go to the local Under His Wings baby pantry.

I didn't really have any idea how it would go and when I arrived at Hy-vee, they gave me a table over near the pharmacy. I had hoped to be right inside the front door so I was a little disappointed, but the good news is it ended up being a great location!

I spoke with the baby pantry in advance and asked if they'd prefer cash or diapers and they said diapers. Once the four hour event was over, I bought five boxes of diapers right there in hy-vee to take over to the baby pantry this week! I'm so excited to diaper some little buns!

I'm grateful to Hy-vee for hosting the event and I'm even more grateful to those of you who showed up. I saw neighbors, friends, family members from over an hour away, fellow church members, and plenty of complete strangers! And everyone was very friendly even if they weren't interested in buying books.

I told several people that standing in a grocery store for four hours was actually a treat for me. I'd never gone inside that Hy-vee alone before! I always have one or two kids with me. While I didn't shop for anything but diapers, being among other adults was a treat. Talking about my books was another bonus. And buying diapers for babies who's parents can't always afford them a huge treat.

So thank you again to everyone involved! This is a wonderful, supportive community. Next weekend, I am looking forward to doing another signing at Dixie Quicks in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Should be a good time! Watch my facebook page for more details on that as I do not know what time the event is. I just know Saturday at this point! I'm guessing afternoon! And this week, I promise I'm going to wrap up the first draft of the sequel to "Accept this Dandelion." I'm calling it "Dandelions on the road." And, believe it or not, when driving home this morning, I actually came up with an idea for a third called "After the final dandelion," or something to that effect. So we'll see about that sometime...

This past Saturday, I was at the Omaha Public Library Local author event. It was fun connecting with other authors and a few companies that have author resources as well as others who love to read. I sign up for all of the author events I can find to get the word out about my books, but I seem to forget one thing when I sign up...I'm an introvert! These events are exhausting!!

Attending the three hour event over the weekend took me back to my radio days. I enjoyed many aspects of being in radio and one part of my job was to do local events. I would go to concerts and set up a table, greet people, hand out window stickers and that sort of thing. Mingling in general. It was funny because most of my co-workers were as extroverted as I was introverted. We would do these events together and they would be energized by the commotion and meeting new people etc. I would be utterly drained and exhausted. They could probably do such events all day long and be perfectly happy. I needed time alone to revive myself after any event.

The events were fun and I enjoyed them, but they're hard. I have found the same to be true about author events. I'm not in sales. I'm not in marketing. I don't like bragging on myself and about my work trying to interest people in purchasing a book. It's hard!

That being said, I have several other events coming up. Well before "Accept this Dandelion" came out I contacted my new local Hy-vee store and asked about doing a book release party there and they agreed. So this Saturday, March 7th, from noon-4pm I will be hanging out at the Plattsmouth Hy-Vee store. I will have books available for purchase and the proceeds form the event go to the local baby pantry. The pantry always needs diapers and anything I make that day, I will spend on diapers for the pantry. I will also have a gift card drawing, candy, book marks and other goodies. I chose Hy-Vee for this event because I love the store and the friendliness they bring to my day whenever I shop there. It's also a convenient location for anyone to visit and I hoped friends and family members might stop by. I hope that Saturday shoppers might happen by the table I set up as well and take a look.

And then next Saturday, March 14th, Dixie Quicks in Council Bluffs has invited me to do a signing as well. They have a different author every Saturday so I am excited about that as well.

So if you're in the area, don't leave me standing there alone! :) I'll rest after the event, I promise. If by rest you can count having two kids hang on you the rest of the day... :) Cause I'm sure that's how the day will REALLY end. Especially after being away for a few hours.

I appreciate meeting all of you and if you're not in the area, drop me a facebook message or email anytime. Introverts like me LOVE internet communication!!!!
