Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!! I hope you have a blessed holiday with your family. We are traveling between two states and a number of different family members. Trying to fit it all in, as usual. And we love it.

Before the actual holiday sets in, I wanted to issue a few invitations your way. I know it's a busy time of year so I'll keep this short.

First, I invite you to enjoy "Wrong Place, Right Time." The book can be purchased HERE for your kindle and you can read it over the break. It's a short, sweet little read. It also makes a good last minute gift and you can have it delivered right to someone's email.

Second, I invite you to attend the "Accept this Dandelion" cover reveal party on January 5th from 8-10pm. I'll show you the cover of the romantic comedy, which will come out February 4th. Join that party HERE.

Third, I invite you to have a wonderful Christmas and let's all make 2015 the best year ever! From my family to yours, Merry Christmas!!!

What's next?!

As an author who loves to write more than anything else, when I first got the contract for this book from The Writer's Coffee Shop, I was beyond ecstatic. I couldn't WAIT for it to come out. That was well over a year and a half ago. So instead of sitting around and twiddling my thumbs, I had to start asking myself, what's next? And the answer was more writing!

I'm equally as thrilled to be releasing "Accept this Dandelion" on February 4th with Prism Book Group. This romantic comedy is a guaranteed laugh and comes out just in time for Valentine's Day. You can see more details about it here on my site.

Then, in August, Prism Book Group will release "Mamarazzi," a novel about a female papparazzo.

In February 2016, "Baby Sheep Gets a Haircut" will come out from Wee Creek Press. My first stab at a children's book!

And my current work in progress, a novella for a Christmas themed compilation with other Prism Book Group authors will come out around this time next year.

So as I've awaited the release of "Wrong Place, Right Time," I've been rather busy! And as I wait on the next few releases...who knows what I might write!

Seriously, I appreciate all of your support for this book. I love what I do and can say that I have my dream job. I get to make stuff up for a living! And stay home and take care of my girls while doing it!

I hope you walk away from "Wrong Place, Right Time" with a smile on your face and a light heart!

One of the questions I get a lot is "What is your current work in progress?" I find it difficult to always have a work in progress, though I have what feels like hundreds in my head. With this book release followed by "Accept this Dandelion" on Feb 4 and Mamarazzi coming out in August, it's hard to balance the promotional work AND writing something new. Not to mention the clients I have that order articles etc from me. But as a writer and a fiction lover, it's also very hard not to be working on something! In early November, I received a contract from Prism Book Group to write a Christmas themed novella. I would call that my current work in progress. It's on my mind a lot, given the season!

The question I get most from friends, family members and others is "how do you come up with your ideas?"

And it's a good question. One I struggle to answer because there is no short answer. The answer is different for everything I write!

I'll answer it a few different ways for a few different things I've written.

"Someone Always Loved You"...I wanted to write a book based around a woman in a coma. My grandmother was in a coma on two different occasions and I wondered if she had thoughts and heard things around her. The book is based on the idea that the coma patient could hear things around them.

"Beyond the Bars"...A friend recommended that I write a book using 5 different people's perspectives. This is that book.

"God in the Kitchen"...My pastor at the time gave a sermon with an interesting theme. What if God showed up in the kitchen and sat across from you? What would you say? This book is based on that idea.

"Wrong Place, Right Time"...An agent at a conference challenged me to try romance. I wrote the line "Stop the wedding" in one of her classes. The rest of the book unfolded from there!

A few interesting facts about me that not everyone would know.

In high school, I played in the percussion section of the band. I was in the pit and played mostly the mallet instruments. Didn't have to march, but had to lug those heavy pieces up and down 44 stairs to the field!

In Junior High, I was in track and threw the shot putt and discus.

I have one cat who is coming up on 13 years old, I think. I always had one or more animals growing up. My husband does not appreciate the cat so he will probably be my last. Sadly.

I cut my hair every 2 years and that's it! I don't do anything make-up wise and hardly anything hair wise. I let it grow till it bugs me so badly I HAVE to cut it. Then I donate it for a wig for a kid with cancer. I just cut it in September so it'll be a while before the next cut!

I hope you've enjoyed learning a little more about me. Sometimes it's interesting to hear odd things about the person behind the words!

Here are a few more interview questions I answered for the tour!

Which was the hardest character for you to write and why?

I struggled with Chad Leida a bit. He’s the main male character in this book. I wanted him to come off full of himself, but he needed to have a softer side that he let show eventually as well. Striking a balance and letting Kate see the right areas of his personality at the right time without giving him too much softness was a challenge. Hank Leida was also hard. He’s Chad’s father and he comes across like a grand ole rancher. And yet he’s also caught up in the fast lane of the financial world. It was also a hard balance to strike.

What do you want your readers to gain from this novel?

I want readers to walk away from this novel with a smile on their faces and a light feeling in their hearts. I want to give them a chuckle or two and brighten their days. The overall message is that even when things don’t go as you expect or even as you want, it might be for good reason. And who knows, things might turn out even better than you’d hoped.

And here are some more interview questions from the tour!

What is your favorite genre to write in and why?

I’ve written a little bit of everything in my career. I have a family drama, a thriller, a Christian romance, and a Christian novel. But I’d have to say I’ve really enjoyed the romantic comedy genre the most. An agent I met at a writing conference encouraged me to try the romance genre. She said if writers can break in there, they can garner support and go on to write other things. I gave it a try and though I had no idea what I was writing had a comedic slant, I enjoyed the romance aspects. Honestly, I think I enjoy most whatever genre I’m writing in at that moment. I just love to write! But I’m going to go with romance/romantic comedy as my favorite since that’s what publishers seem to be wanting from me!

Do you see yourself in any of your characters?

Oh yes, there are always pieces of me in characters. I’ve heard the advice “write what you know” and I’ve taken it to heart! In “Wrong Place, Right Time,” the main character, Kate Covington, has plenty of my characteristics. She’s in TV news as a traffic reporter, for one. I did that exact job for about 5 months on a fill in basis. I feel like I was a bumbling traffic reporter much like she is in the novella! She also isn’t really all that into hair and makeup and clothes, just like me. On the other hand, there are plenty of fabricated aspects in every character I write as well. Sometimes I take things from people I know and sometimes I grab things from thin air. It’s the beauty of writing fiction!

As for blogs for the day, I want to say thank you to the following blogs for participating in the tour today!

Here is a guest post I wrote for another blog as part of the tour. The blogger asked a great question!

What do you do to prepare yourself for writing, do you have to do something to get in the right frame of mind? What is your overall writing process?

You could say that I have quite a little ritual when it comes to writing! It’s not really by choice, I suppose, but it’s something I do before I sit down and write without fail. First, I get the milk out of the fridge and hand it over to my 21-month-old daughter. Then I take her upstairs, find her huge Elmo stuffed animal, and sit in the big comfy chair. We then rock and snuggle and she puts her hand up my shirtsleeve and drinks her milk until she falls asleep. Once I am assured that she’s well out, I dump her in her crib, steal the milk, sneak from the room and dash back downstairs. Time to turn on the computer! It’s quiet! Let’s write!!!

I am a mother to two young girls, one of which is in kindergarten and the other who thankfully still naps about an hour a day. This is the ONLY time I have to write anything at all. It is when I am writing this guest post! Someday, when both of my daughters are in school, I can only imagine what I can get done. But for now, it’s all I have and I cling to it!

I like for it to be quiet when I write. I used to like noise when writing, music and such. However, now, I think my life is so filled with noise all day everyday that when it comes time to write…the whole hour or so that I get each day…I just want silence! I often have an iced tea or big glass of water nearby and sometimes some animal crackers or whatever snack is handy as well.

I don’t really feel like I have to get in the right frame of mind in order to write. The right mood is almost always there. There are days here and there when I don’t feel like it, but they are very far and few between. To me, writing is something I NEED. The doctor tells you to work out because it’s good for you. Of course, that’s true, but I also feel like writing is good for me. It’s something that is mine in a life that is never ever ever about me. I give and give all day long and I wouldn’t have it any other way. However, having writing all to myself makes me feel like the me I was before I had kids is still here!

My writing process is pretty random. I don’t outline. I don’t keep notes. I sit down to a blank screen, put my fingers on the keyboard and go! That being said, I don’t write unless a story bothers me so much I can’t sleep at night. Once I start a story, it’s hard for me to stop and I work on it every chance I get until it’s done! When I’m not working on a novel or novella, I write articles and other things for clients and that keeps me happy between projects.

“Wrong Place, Right Time” is a story that I actually wrote in less than a month. IT came to me at a writing conference and wouldn’t go away. I wrote it while highly pregnant and uncomfortable. The only part I don’t like about the story is that there are characters in that I love so much I want to write a sequel and I don’t know when I could do that. They haven’t told me what their story is yet. But if they ever do…watch out!

And a couple of interview questions I answered for the blog tour:

What inspired this story?

I attended a writing conference in Kansas City in 2012. I thoroughly enjoyed several workshops presented by agent Mary Sue Seymour. In one of her workshops, she encouraged writers to find a great, eye catching first line with which to start a story. In that class, she had us all come up with opening lines. I came up with “Stop the wedding!” “Wrong Place, Right Time” stems from that one line and opening scene that I created in that class. That particular scene got moved back farther into the book, but it still exists! And once I got home from the conference, I couldn’t help but finish the story I started!

Tell us about the editing process, were there any surprises?

Oh, just a few dozen! The initial shock and awe was the announcement from my editor that she believed after the story was edited that it would no longer be a full length, paperback printable novel. Instead, it would likely be a novella and released in ebook format only. This was disheartening to me, but I agreed with her that we needed to go with story and do what was best with it. The first round of edits returned with red computer comments and changes stuffed into every margin. I’ve never seen so much red! And though it was a grueling process, I learned a lot about my writing style, what I can do better, and how to make things flow. I’ve never claimed to be an editor. Reading through my own stuff and seeing it for what it is and not for what I meant it to be is really hard. And that’s why I take editing advice very seriously from those who I believe know what they are doing!
