Brooke on the Move!

I wanted to take a moment to highlight a few events I'll be attending in upcoming weeks. I'm not always the best at getting word out about these events, but I love to see you, meet you, chat with you etc. So I want to make sure everyone who might want to know, knows!

I added a spot on the front page of my website about upcoming events. With any luck, I will keep tabs on those events and add to them as I add to my own calendar. I might add a completely new page to the website at some point to list events. Just haven't gotten to that yet.

In the meantime, let's talk about what's coming up! This weekend is going to be a blast and it's because there are TWO events! Saturday, I'll head to the Bennington Public Library from 9:30-11am. This event is a children's author event and very informal, from what I'm told. You can meet a variety of children's authors, chat with them, buy their books and so on. If you have kids who love to read, or you have kids you want to read more, bring them! I run across a lot of grandparents buying books for their kids and that's always fun too. It's even more fun to chat with children who are aspiring writers themselves. I see myself in those little ones!

After that event, I'll head over to the Ralston Public Library from 1-3pm for the Author Extravaganza. There will be a handful of authors on hand (many of which I know personally and professionally and all of whom I love!) These authors have put together quite an event. First, they are collecting books as part of Operation Paperback, which sends gently used paperback books to troops overseas. Second, they are doing book giveaways galore. Third, we will all be on hand to chat, sign and sell books. This group did a similar event last year and it was a blast.

Then, next week, I'll be speaking at the Wordsowers Writer's Group on Thursday August 25th from 6-8pm at the Swanson Library in Omaha. If you love to write yourself, this group is incredible. I will be talking about how to start an online freelance writing career and giving tips that have helped me get things started. I'll also let you in on what DOESN'T work from my personal experiences. :)

I'm also very excited about speaking at the All-Iowa Writer's Conference on September 17. I will be speaking for close to an hour at 1pm, but the conference goes from 9-4pm. They're having a writing contest, critique sessions, book sales, workshops and so much more. If you are in the area, I encourage you to look up the details on OutFrontPorchBooks.com.

I'm also starting to branch out and do events in schools with my children's books. I will be visiting Conestoga Elementary mid-September. I'm waiting to hear what date they pick between two possible dates. They are giving me a forty minute assembly, so I would appreciate some luck there. :) I will be talking to my daughter's school once they get into the swing of things to set something up there as well. The principal wants me to come so we just have to get things arranged.

I really love doing these events. Some end up just being a good time to talk with other authors while others introduce me to new or current readers. Either way, they're something completely different from what I do on a normal, daily basis (which is chase my two girls or sit at home alone and type). :) If you hear of any events you think might be fun/interesting, please shoot them my way. Even if I can't make it, I know a lot of other authors so I may know someone who can!

Keep an eye on the website from time to time for updated events. I hope to see as many of you as possible at any or all of them!
