Attending the three hour event over the weekend took me back to my radio days. I enjoyed many aspects of being in radio and one part of my job was to do local events. I would go to concerts and set up a table, greet people, hand out window stickers and that sort of thing. Mingling in general. It was funny because most of my co-workers were as extroverted as I was introverted. We would do these events together and they would be energized by the commotion and meeting new people etc. I would be utterly drained and exhausted. They could probably do such events all day long and be perfectly happy. I needed time alone to revive myself after any event.
The events were fun and I enjoyed them, but they're hard. I have found the same to be true about author events. I'm not in sales. I'm not in marketing. I don't like bragging on myself and about my work trying to interest people in purchasing a book. It's hard!
That being said, I have several other events coming up. Well before "Accept this Dandelion" came out I contacted my new local Hy-vee store and asked about doing a book release party there and they agreed. So this Saturday, March 7th, from noon-4pm I will be hanging out at the Plattsmouth Hy-Vee store. I will have books available for purchase and the proceeds form the event go to the local baby pantry. The pantry always needs diapers and anything I make that day, I will spend on diapers for the pantry. I will also have a gift card drawing, candy, book marks and other goodies. I chose Hy-Vee for this event because I love the store and the friendliness they bring to my day whenever I shop there. It's also a convenient location for anyone to visit and I hoped friends and family members might stop by. I hope that Saturday shoppers might happen by the table I set up as well and take a look.
And then next Saturday, March 14th, Dixie Quicks in Council Bluffs has invited me to do a signing as well. They have a different author every Saturday so I am excited about that as well.
So if you're in the area, don't leave me standing there alone! :) I'll rest after the event, I promise. If by rest you can count having two kids hang on you the rest of the day... :) Cause I'm sure that's how the day will REALLY end. Especially after being away for a few hours.
I appreciate meeting all of you and if you're not in the area, drop me a facebook message or email anytime. Introverts like me LOVE internet communication!!!!
