Getting recognized for writing books is even harder still. No one knows what I look like OR what I sound like! And that's great with me. I never liked that part of my last jobs anyway.
But the other day, and frequent at other times, I was recognized for something else entirely. "You look familiar," the women I ran into downtown said. "Do you live in such and such neighborhood on such and such street?" I do so I said yes. She nodded with recognition. "Ah. I see you outside playing with your girls all the time." Do we have a busy street? Somewhat. People often use it to get in and out of the neighborhood. But the more times I get stopped for this aspect of my life the happier it makes me. Yes I was on tv. Yes I was in radio. Yes I write books. But more important than any of that combined...yes I play with my girls. Constantly!! Some people say they feel like they've seen my daughters grow up from their drives past our house and their driveway observations. But me? I've seen it up close and personal and in the lucky one.
Recognize me for whatever you want but when you recognize me as a mom, know that's what makes me most proud.
